10 Lessons from the Mainland

1.  everyday you hop into a cab you feel that it may be your last day on earth because people drive so crazy there

2.  asian people may not be the worst drivers on earth because it takes a lot of skill to drive in china.  Instead maybe we should change the saying to asian people are the craziest drivers on earth.

3. don’t feel bad bargaining to get a shirt down to $3 US dollars, it’s just how they do it there

4. if you look asian they will not consider you to be an American.  In fact they will tell you to your face you are not American. Haha..

5. some “hair salons” and “karayoke” places have “special full services”…

6. in china there exists: TGIF, starbucks, sizzler, papa john’s,…

7. even a super poor graduate student can live large there because things are just so cheap

8. shopping is overwhelming, I almost didn’t know what to do with myself… never thought a day would come when I’d have to say that

9. foreigners are stared at

10. always bring tp with you. always.

FAQ May '07

wow 2 months..  anyone still read this? haha.. i've been so busy.  to answer some oh so very common q's of the summer:

are you done with school?  yes, well.. sorta.  i did graduate earlier this month! (yay!) <insert high five> but i will be going back for another year to get my doc of OT.

phd?  no, it's not PhD, it's an OTD.  it's a bit different and it's only 1 year versus a million (ok i exaggerate..) ..versus ~ 5.

so, are you're back in SF only for the summer? looking for jobs? what are you doing?  i'm back for the summer.  looking for jobs in LA actually.  i've got a weird schedule that doesn't really permit me to find a job for the summer.. which is too bad cuz i really need the money.  i'm leaving for china in june and then when i get back probably go back to LA for a week in july for interviews and then school starts end of August.

ooo, mainland?  yup, only for about 3 weeks.  get to visit a friend, sight see, and do a bit of OT stuff with some orphanages.  it's not an internship (i'm done with those!! yay!! <insert high five>).  so i'm excited.

rest of the summer?   studying for my board exam so that i can officially be licensed =)

what have you been doing then since you've been back?   unpacking, being a bum, errands, getting my act together to study for the boards, hanging out, eating, sleeping.

can i give you money since you are poor*?  well, of course if you insist!  the sophia fund is wide open, accepting your generosity.  although i cannot guarantee it will be tax deductible and i cannot accept debit, mastercard, visa, discover, or amex.  haha j/k.  sorta.. ;)

what did you think of the heroes and lost finales*?  they were ... i dunno i'm torn.  good and bad?  some parts i liked and some i didn't.  but what can u do.. that's how it is.  at the end of lost though i was thinking... damn they did it again.. more questions.

can't you get a haircut girl*?  yes. in fact, i'm looking for a new salon. any suggestions?

do you really like potatoes that much*?  oh yes, in most every form. so yummy.

* some q's may not be really representative of FAQ of May. i just like to make it seem like people ask me lots of q's so it seems i have a life.

y = 3x and 3x = 12

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?  OMG.. I sure think so.

I can't believe this show!  this woman was on it and missed:

if  y = 3x  and  3x = 12   then what is y?

!!!!! i screamed at my tv "the answer is right in front of you!!... even if you can't see the answer you can still calculate it out... "  At least she knew that she didn't know it so she "dropped out"  meaning she takes the amount of money level she's made it to BUT she has to say into the camera:

"I'm not smarter than a 5th grader"

One of the worst things is that she screams and cheers this into the camera with the widest smile.  Now I understand she just won $50,000  so she's happy about that but really lady... can you REALLY be that happy that you function below a 5th grade level?!  I mean who is happy to not be smarter than a 5th grader?!    and why do we award people who aren't?! Why am I not winning that kind of money?  i'd like to see the producers of this show pick smarter people.. except i guess ratings wouldn't be good and people like me wouldn't watch. haha..

Really.. only in America can you be awarded for such things.

Full Plate and More.

so it's been ages since i've updated.  in november i got into a car accident.  to make a long story short, i got rear ended on the freeway and i was at a complete stop.  go figure... LA and the craziness.  (if you want the story just ask) so that has added a lot more to my already full plate.  i don't even get to check my email obsessively throughout the day anymore.  so my week looks something like this:

- 2 full-time days a week for my last fieldwork (internship)

- then the work i have to do outside of fieldwork

- 2 full-time days a week for class

- then the homework and reading i have to do

- PT 1x/wk (just decreased from 2x/wk!)

- fitting in time everyday to do my PT exercises

- chiropractor appointments 3x/wk

- student council meeting 1 time a week

- work in the morning on Saturdays

- dealing with insurance stuff which happens at the least 1x/wk

so i've come to the conclusion that i'll be more than burnt out by May.  then i will be needing a humungo vacation or something.  although i've been a busy bee, i've still been able to make time to watch my TV (although sometimes i'm really behind) and go out because we all should know that all work and no play makes sophia go crazay.

c'est la vie.

p.s. RIP tercel (1996-2006), i was hoping you'd give me 10 more years but you gave me a good 10 years already so cheers.
